5 Free AI Tools Valley Business Owners Are Missing Out On

You already know ChatGPT. Here is what the rest of your toolkit is missing.
Recently, I was invited as a guest speaker to the Van Nuys Rotary Club to talk about consuming AI without fear. I asked a room of business owners how many of them used AI for anything in their business. About a third of the hands went up. Then I asked how many of those people used more than one tool regularly. Almost every hand went back down.
That gap is what this list is for.
Most of us already know ChatGPT. That is not where the gap is. The gap is in the handful of free tools working quietly behind it, the ones already saving real time for the business owners who have found them, and doing nothing at all for the ones who have not.
Free on the desktop version of Canva, Magic Studio combines AI design and AI writing in one place. If you need a flyer, a social graphic, or help finishing a sentence on your website copy, it does most of the heavy lifting without asking you to learn design software first.
Free with any Google account, which most small business owners already have. Ask it to summarize a long email thread, draft a response, pull key points from a document, or answer a quick research question without leaving the tools you are already working in.
Most people think of Zapier as a connector tool, not an AI tool, which is exactly why this one gets missed. You describe an automation in plain English, something like "when a new lead comes in, summarize it and text me," and it builds the workflow for you.
Not new, but still underused as an AI tool rather than a spellchecker. The free version catches grammar and spelling before it goes out the door. One caution: do not let it iron the personality out of your writing. Use it to polish what you already sound like, not to replace it.
A research tool that searches the web and explains itself, so you are not stuck opening ten tabs to answer one question about pricing, a competitor, or a regulation that just changed.
None of these require you to "get into AI." You just need one task this week that is eating your time, and one of these five to take it off your plate.
This is the kind of thing I will be covering more of once AI Without Fear launches. For now, if you try one of these and it sticks, let me know in the group. I am always curious which ones end up actually getting used, and which ones quietly die in a bookmarked tab. On a personal level, I use Perplexity for fact checks, especially when I see a lot of questionable posts of all sorts on Facebook.
